About This Course
Learning Objectives
Antenatal Care: Students learn to provide comprehensive prenatal care, including monitoring the health of the mother and fetus, conducting screenings, and addressing any potential concerns.
Intrapartum Care: The program covers the full spectrum of intrapartum care, from supporting natural childbirth to managing medical interventions when necessary.
Postpartum Care: Students are trained in postpartum care, including assessing the well-being of both the mother and newborn, providing breastfeeding support, and addressing postpartum challenges.
Family Planning and Reproductive Health: The curriculum includes education on family planning, contraception, and reproductive health to support women's overall well-being.
Requirements
- Direct Admission
- i. A minimum of three principal passes at “C" grade or higher at “A” level in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology/Zoology and Physics. Preference will be given to applicants with C grade or above in Chemistry or Biology in that order.
- ii. Candidates with D in Physics at “A” level provided they have “C” or higher in Chemistry and/or Biology.
- Equivalent Qualifications
- i. Appropriate Diploma and or Advanced Diploma with an overall “B” grade performance and Principal passes at any grade in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at “A” level of education, (all 3 or either).
- ii. Holders of BSc degree with a lower second class majoring in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Zoology.
Target Audience
- Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM): Graduates are eligible to become Certified Nurse-Midwives, providing a range of healthcare services to women across the lifespan.
- Midwifery Practice: Graduates can establish their own midwifery practices, offering personalized care to women and families.
- Hospital-Based Midwifery: Midwives may choose to work in hospitals, collaborating with obstetricians and other healthcare professionals to provide maternity care.
- Community Health: Midwives can contribute to community health initiatives, promoting maternal and infant health within communities.
